Centering Prayer: Being Heart to Heart with God

I’m fascinated by Mother Teresa’s response to a couple of questions posed by former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather during an interview he conducted with her back in the 80’s. “What do you say to God when you pray?” Rather asked. Her simple answer was, “I don’t say anything; I just listen.” Rather, rather nonplussed, then asked her, “Well, what does Jesus say to you?” And Mother Theresa answered, “Oh, He doesn’t say anything, either. He just listens.”

The prayer she described sounds, on the surface, like the most disjointed conversation in history. Two beings listening to each other not talk. Two listeners listening to each other say nothing. (more…)

Christian Guided Meditation: Selecting the right guided Christian meditation for you

Most Christian Guided Meditation Cds or recordings include a progressive relaxation and scriptural narrative that includes biblical stories, relevant scriptures, positive affirmations and relaxing music.

It is important that the Christian Guided Meditation Cd, mp3, or recording you choose begins with brief relaxation exercises that prepares you to receive God’s word. Deep breathing exercises that engage your diaphragm are one of the best ways to relax not only your body but your mind. Many guided meditations will have you inhale deeply, hold the breath for several seconds and then exhale. Next, they guide you through relaxing each area of your body from your head down to your feet. Once you are relaxed, your subconscious mind is much more receptive to receive God’s words. (more…)

Try a Power Meditation

Lately I have been practicing one of my meditation sessions a little differently.  Generally I try to meditate twice a day, one guided meditation (usually one of my Cds) and then a Centering Prayer meditation (a silent meditation using a sacred word to anchor my mind).  There are many benefits to meditation and meditating on God and His word. I believe one of the most important reasons is to quiet our mind so we can hear and build relationship with God on a spiritual level. I enjoy both types because they provide me with different experiences and results.

Well I kind of stumbled on a new way to meditate on God that is empowering me spirituality, renewing my mind, and increasing my joy and well-being. I wanted to share it with you. (more…)
