How Can I Integrate Christian Meditation into my Counseling Practice?

Question: How Can I Integrate Christian Meditation into my Counseling  or Coaching Practice?

Answer: If you ever read my testimony you will know that Christian meditation helped me overcome years of depression. Prior to this I had sought out counselors and was even on medication for awhile. But what I didn’t understand at the time was that my negative thinking was contributing to my low and depressed moods. By this time negative thinking had just become a way of life.  It wasn’t until I began to quiet my mind that I began to observe what I was thinking.  Once I began to monitor my thoughts, I was able to use God’s word to squash my destructive thinking. I believe this is a powerful tool for any counseling theraphy. Just think if my counselors had shared this information with me? I would have learned to monitor my destructive thinking and then take authority of them using God’s word.  Although individuals come to counseling for many problems, I believe  that most of our problems stem from the thoughts we think.  Christian meditation can help support your counseling efforts by helping your clients to better understand the mind, body, and spirit connection. I believe that this knowledge can be empowering.  Through Christian meditation your clients gain many benefits. They will learn to observe their thoughts and take authority over them, surrender their mind to God for healing, plant God’s word in their heart, and receive the transformative power of dwelling in God’s presence. I would encourage practioneers to select meditation topics close to the needs of the client and then encourage them to meditate at least once per day.  If purchasing Cds isn’t possible, then scripture meditation is also encouraged.  Christian meditation integrated with Christian  counseling is a powerful tool for change, healing, and spiritual growth.

5 Tips to a More Spiritual Life

The Bible says that God is a spirit. In fact, I have often heard people say that we are all spiritual beings having a human or physical experience. If we don’t nurture our spiritual being, then we aren’t living through all the dimensions of who we are. Neglecting our inner or spiritual nature can often lead to feelings of emptiness and unfulfillment. The Bibles tells us to walk in the spirit and we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Living only to fulfill our physical needs does not lead to a whole and balanced life. You can grow spiritually and cultivate your spiritual awareness with these simple steps.

Practice Meditation

The first and the most important step would be to develop a habit of meditating. Meditation is a powerful tool for introspection of the soul or spirit. It is a great way to clean your thoughts and feelings of all the impurities. Meditation is not that difficult to learn, but you must practice it on a regular basis for it to be effective. You can find guided meditations, Christian meditations, and find many tutorials on the internet on how to meditate. Don’t get hung up on the negative connotations often associated with meditation. You can find meditation practices that are safe and will not conflict with your beliefs of faith.

Spend Time in Nature

Spend some time daily or at least weekly in nature. Most people feel safe and secure when they are close to their mother. Similarly when you are close to Mother Nature a similar comfort overtakes you. A simple walk in the park or garden can bring you close to it and smell of the flowers is surely going to relieve all your day’s stress.

Fill Your Home with Positive Energy

Your home should have an ambiance that creates positive energy around you. Such an ambiance can be created in both natural and artificial ways. You can have flowers that you think will create a positive atmosphere or you can make use of artificial scents also. In addition, clear away clutter and keep your home clean. You will feel the positive effects immediately and will thus relax your mind, body and soul. Play uplifting music that bring joy to your heart and inspires good feelings. Surrounding yourself by things you love, helps to nurture your inner being and brings out your creativity.

Live By the Spirit

Jesus let his disciples know that once he ascended to heaven that he would send the Holy Spirit that would live in us and guide us in all truth. Reading spiritual or enlightening books like the Bible will also enhance the spiritual person living inside of you. By focusing more on the spiritual aspects of life, when train our minds and hearts to live a more spiritual life. It is important that we learn to “be still” so that we can hear the still, small voice of the spirit that speaks to us. When we are prompted or feel an urge to do or more in a particular direction, trust God’s spirit in you and follow your heart.

Preventing Spiritual Starvation

Preventing Spiritual Starvation

by Pastor Ron Shortt, Lighthouse Baptist Church

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)

Countless numbers of people reside in areas of the world where food is plentiful and where mankind is well-nourished. For that reason many of us are not acquainted with the manifestation of acute starvation.

In the early stages, those who suffer from this affliction possess an insatiable desire for food. As the days go on, the bodies of these hungering people go through stages of waning, their process for thought becomes benumbed, and their longing for food lessens more and more.

In fact, folks that are suffering from starvation finally come to a place that their desire for food is completely non-existent.

Spiritual Starvation develops in many of the same patterns.

When we as God’s children have a well-balanced diet of God’s Holy Word each day,  if our intake decreases,  we often begin to experience the same physical symptoms of a starving person and may begin to experience “Spiritual Hunger.”

If we then continue to omit this much needed daily devotion with God, we run the risk losing all of our longing to feed on God’s Word.

Where are you in this process? Are you spiritually nourished day in and day out? Do you get excited about learning the truths of what God has in store for you daily?

A more important question here is do you feel an emptiness in your being and in your life when you miss out on this daily nourishment of The Word?

Thomas Guthrie wrote, “If you find yourself loving any pleasure better than your prayers, any book better than the Bible, any persons better than Christ, or any indulgence better than the hope of heaven—take alarm.”

If you no longer have a powerful desire for the “Bread of Life” it is time to come back to God and ask for forgiveness and petition your Lord and Savior to revive your craving for His Word.

A Bible that is read on a daily basis is a representation of a healthy nourished soul.

Eliminate mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical toxins with the guidance of a brand new e-program titled Detox Your Life Now and Awaken Your Inner Spirit that has been released by Serenity Enterprises.

The aim of this Christian health, fitness, and wellness program is to help believers and other spiritual seekers cleanse themselves of toxins that interfere with their overall health and well-being and God’s best for their lives.

Detox Your Life Now and Awaken Your Inner Spirit takes a spiritual and holistic approach to health and healing. The program is unique in that most self-help programs address one or more specific areas like clearing clutter or overcoming emotional eating instead of uncovering the source of many problems, which most often begin with a renewing of the mind and purification of the spirit. Once we change our thoughts and cleanse our heart, the natural byproduct is a healthier body and outer world,” say the author and Health and Spiritual Coach Rhonda Jones.
