The Church Social Club

Want the Church to Grow? Stop Entertaining (Short Video)

Have you ever felt like the church is a big social club with many different chapters all over the city? The United States?  I have. You can find a program for just about anything and everything. Don’t get me wrong, I love church fellowship and hearing a good sermon, but in most churches, we’re ministering more to each other instead of those who need it most- the lost. Many of our own spiritual issues stem from the emptiness we feel from the stagnation in our own walk. Most of us want more than a weekly gathering of the saints and listening to another sermon. I believe we want to operate in God’s power and see his miracles. We want to make a real difference in the lives of others and usher in the kingdom of God right here on earth.

Just think about it, what are most churches doing to reach the lost? You’d be hard pressed to find a church with a solid outreach ministry and even if you believe that we are commissioned to go out and preach the gospel, most Christians are fearful and ill-prepared. However, it is the church’s job to equip the saints for ministry starting from the pastor down. Yet, it just doesn’t seem to be a priority really.

Unfortunately, as a whole, as stated in the video, the church has lost it’s power. In Mark 16:17,  Jesus said,And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.” Instead of the church, in general, being a powerful and spiritual construct and as become a social one, dealing more with people’s physical needs than their spiritual ones.

What can we do? Turn back to God and sincerely invite the Holy Spirit back into the church and begin to operate in the power of the Kingdom of God with signs following. We must step out of the boat of complacency and not be satisfied with just social programs and entertainment among ourselves.

This video very succinctly. I hope you enjoy it.

Please share your thoughts below on this video. What can churches do to regain their power and influence?

The Church needs to stop entertaining itself and worship God and serve Him only.
